Beaufort County Republican Women
The Beaufort County Republican Women are having a membership drive. The membership has dropped off in the last 2 years and we need to bring it back up to where it was a couple years ago. We had several women who volunteered at GOP Headquarters during the last campaign and I would welcome them as members. The BCWRC is the only Republican club in Beaufort County that is sanctioned by the State and Federal Clubs. It is important to belong to a club like ours, to know what is going on in the Republican Party. We are the "grassroots" group for someone wanting to run for office, for information on what Republican Women are doing in other parts of the state. To be in the know on candidates, what's going on in legislature, what our city and county are doing. Being kept up on the issues that affect women.
Please come join us. you may call Helen Eckman, Treasurer--946-3044 for applications. Dues are $25.00 per year. Our mailing address is BCRW, 104 Simmons Street, Washington, NC 27889. By the way, if there's not a Women's Club in your county, contact us about being a member, or if there is, join us as an associate member, men may also join as associate members.

After Election Report - Del Stutzman
Beaufort County Republican Women have been busy with the candidates in this year's election. All of the local candidates for state and county offices have spoken at our meetings several times. Our biggest news election wise is that two of our newest members were candidates for Beaufort County School Board and BOTH WON! There has been a real brouhaha here between the School Board and the County Commissioners over the budget, the board wanting more money than the commissioners felt they needed and it has ended up in the board suing the commissioners. We feel that is the reason Cindy Winstead beat the Chairman of the School Board by a 3 to 1 margin and Dr. Teressa Banks (her Doctorate is in Education) beat a longtime board member 2 to 1. We are so very proud of these 2 members, neither one of them had ever run for a political office before nor to win like they did was so sweet.
We have had a busy spring and summer. BCRW decorated the tables for the joint 1st and 3rd Districts convention held here at Beaufort County Community College.
We had a table at the NC State GOP Convention in New Bern, the raffle tickets for a flag that had flown over the capitol in Washington, DC went like the proverbial hot cakes, thank you Sen. Richard Burr for furnishing the flag. Kim Hendrix, wife of 3rd District Chairman, Curt Hendrix, won the flag.
We joined the Beaufort County Republican Party in doing a float for the Belhaven 4th of July Parade, which is the oldest continuous running parade in the state. Our float was right in front of the Democrat float which looked sick compared to ours!
There were 2 events on the waterfront that the BCRW took part in and did well in selling jewelry and our cookbooks.
BCRW have taken part in getting signatures on the petitions for "Jessica's Law", and making the general public aware of the North Carolina Property Rights Coalition by having a joint meeting with the NO-OLF Committee and having Kieran Shanahan as the main speaker.
We have worked hard this summer getting our name out to the general public. Our main project for the upcoming year is to increase our membership.
Now that the BC Republican Party has a Headquarters in downtown Washington, 107 East 2nd Street across from the City Hall, phone 252-946-9142, there is a Beaufort County Republican Women's Club table with jewelry, cookbooks and Federation information on it. If you're in Beaufort County for any reason stop in and say hello.

Janet Morrison Asks for Support of Jessica's Law at BCRW

|
The January 9th meeting of the Beaufort County Republican Women’s Club featured Janet Morrison of Elon, North Carolina. Ms Morrison, along with the Alamance County Republican Women, is the North Carolina advocate for the “Child Protection Amendment”, aka “Jessica Petition”. The Child Protection Amendment was created by Joseph H. Dawson who was inspired by the abduction and death of Jessica Marie Lundstrom, age 9, in Florida. |
Dawson’s campaign, along with tens of thousands of concerned citizens resulted in the Jessica’s Law of 2005 being signed into law by Governor Jeb Bush in Florida. All the residents of North Carolina need to support the adoption of Jessica’s Law for North Carolina. All of our children, grandchildren, nieces, nephews, friends and neighbors children should be safe from harm.
The Beaufort County Republican Women’s Club has taken the signing of the petition on as a project and has petitions available for signing. Anyone interested in helping the club with this project may call Del Stutzman at 946-6145 or Monte Asby at 946-9089.
The next meeting of the BCRWC will be held at Blackbeard’s Restaurant on February 16 with dinner at 6 and the meeting at 7 p.m., all Republican Women are invited to attend, please call Del at 946-6145 for information and reservations.
