BCRP 2007 Convention, March 20, 2007 at Beaufort County Community College

                                         

Chairman Hope Van Dorp called the meeting to order at 7:45 pm. 

Mark Hamblin led the meeting with prayer and Larry Bailey led the pledge of allegiance.

Hope appointed Kevin Lewis, Chairman of Nash County Republican Party,  to preside over the meeting with John Tate as Parliamentarian and Joe Rose as Secretary.

 

The Credential’s committee report was submitted by Bruce Jarvah & Margy Fuson.  The report (attachment A.) was approved unanimously.

 

The Rules Committee report was submitted by Jimmie Whichard  (attachment B).

 

Steve Rader made an amending motion to move the presentation of the Plan of Organization ahead of Election of Executive officers on the submitted agenda in the Rules committee report. Frank Hollowell seconded, and the motion carried.

With the amendment, the Rules Committee report passed unanimously.

 

Sheri Elks motioned to approve The Plan of Organization as presented.

 

Motion 1.   Bill Sprenkle moved to have a  1st and 2nd Vice Chairmen and to be from different districts. This was seconded by Ron Toppin. After much discussion it was passed unanimously.

Motion 2.  Bill Sprenkle moved  to allow the executive committee to be able to revise the plan of organization.  Ed Henry seconded.  After discussion, the motion failed to pass.

Motion 3. Steve Radar moved that the changes to the plan of organization be effective immediately rather than at the next convention. Al Klemm seconded. The motion carried.

Motion 4.  Steve Radar moved for the wording that limits the number of executive committee members at 15 to be changed to allow 5 or more.  Stan Deatherage seconded.  After much discussion, Ron Toppin & Dot Moate called for the question.  The voice vote was not decisive, so a count was taken.  The motion failed, 37 for and 38 against.

The question on the Plan of Organization as amended was voted on and passed.

 

Election of Officers:

 

For Chairman, Jane Alligood nominated Ashley Woolard, second  by Ron Toppin.

Joe Rose nominated Larry Britt, second by Del Stutzman. Ashley Woolard was elected.

1st Vice Chairman.  Ed Henry nominated Bill Sprenkle, second by Al Klemm. 

Stan Deatherage nominated Greg Dority, second by Del Stutzman. Bill Sprenkle was elected.

2nd Vice Chairman. Dot Moate nominated John Tate.  Jane Alligood seconded and John Tate was approved by acclamation.

Secretary:  Bill Sprenkle nominated Joe Rose, second by Ron Toppin. Joe was approved by acclamation.

Treasurer: Bill Sprenkle nominated Bill Tarpenning, seconded by Ron Toppin. Bill was approved by acclamation.

 

Election of At-Large Delegates to the B. C. Executive Committee:

 

After nominations and withdrawals of several candidates there were 18 nominees.  Steve Rader moved that the Plan of Organization be amended to allow 18 members instead of 15 as previously approved.  Del Stutzman seconded and the motion carried.

 

At large members in order of nomination are:

Election of Delegates / Alternates to 1st and 3rd districts and to the state convention.

 

Delegate and alternate positions were opened to the floor for volunteers.  The first district had 11 delegates and 3 alternates.  The third district had 27 delegates and 1 alternate.

They were approved by acclamation.  

 

Closing Remarks and Adjournment.

 

Newly elected Chairman Ashley Woolard gave closing remarks for the convention.

 

The meeting was adjourned at approximately 10:15pm.
